By [Dan Rivoli] Borough President Scott Stringer is accepting applications to join local community boards in Manhattan. One of the borough presidents" few responsibilities is appointing new board members. Stringer"s reforms to the process were to accept applications and make appointments based on merit. Community boards are bodies near the bottom of the municipal government totem pole. A board"s role is to take in community complaints, study city proposals or new developments and give advisory opinions. Those interested in joining a local community board can attend an information session Jan. 6, 2011, at 6:30 p.m. at 1 Centre Street, 19th Floor. To RSVP, call 212-669-4465 or email conference@manhattanbp.org.
