Cano, Wang Complete Sweep of Sox

The New York Yankees entered this week’s series against the first-place Boston Red Sox reeling from a [16-0 shutout loss] against the Tigers and in danger of being knocked out of playoff contention. Three days later, the Pinstripers are leaving the Bronx with a sweep of the Sox and are probably the most confident team in baseball.

Chien-Ming Wang carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning and allowed just one hit in seven frames, and Robinson Cano (pictured) hit two homers for the Yankees in their [5-0 shutout victory over Boston] yesterday afternoon. To add insult to Boston’s injury, rookie phenom Joba Chamberlain, who has been dominant for New York the past month, threw twice over the head of Sox first baseman Kevin Youkilis in the ninth inning, subsequently getting ejected.

With the win, the [Yankees now have sole possession] of the Wild Card lead and sit just five back of the Red Sox heading into September. They look to continue their late-season sure tonight at home against [woeful Tampa Bay at 7:05 p.m](http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/preview?gameId=270831110).
