CRANE OWNER SENTENCED IN BRIBERY CASE
By [Dan Rivoli] The man who pled guilty for bribing Department of Buildings officials after a 2008 crane collapse on the Upper East Side was sentenced. Michael Sackaris, the owner of Nu-Way Crane Service Inc., will go to state prison for two to six years for giving department officials money to falsify crane inspections and operator licenses, District Attorney Cyrus Vance announced. Sackaris, 50, was arrested after a crane fell on a 333 E. 91st St. apartment building. The accident killed two men. Fatal crane accidents have cut short too many lives in New York City, said Vance in a statement. â??Bribing a city employee's particularly one charged with ensuring the public"s safety's is more than a criminal affront to the taxpayers who expect honest services from the city"s workforce. The buildings official that took the bribes, James Delayo, also received two to six years after pleading guilty earlier this year.
