Undone by “Son”Scammers took advantage of a senior Upper East Side resident by impersonating her son on the phone, police said. On July 22, a 79-year-old woman got a phone call from a person claiming to be her son, saying he had been arrested and needed $2,000 to get out of jail. He instructed her to send the money using iTunes gift cards, which she duly purchased and then read the redemption numbers over the phone.
KTMIAA bicyclist was tempting fate by leaving his bike unattended on the street for more than a week. On July 15, a 36-year-old man parked and secured his KTM outside 306 East 80th Street. The bike was missing when he returned to retrieve it on July 23. The orange KTM is valued at $16,000.
Just Because You Can Park on Park ...At 5:40 p.m. on Friday, July 22, a 31-year-old man parked his BMW R nineT motorcycle at the northeast corner of 62nd Street and Park Avenue. The bike was gone when he returned early that Saturday morning. He told police he had not secured the BMW with chains or other means of security. The bike was valued at $15,000.
Bloomie’s Business Is Picking UpA rash of shoplifting arrests has taken place at Bloomingdale’s recently. During the early afternoon July 25, a 33-year-old man was seen by store security personnel picking up six wallets and who then tried to leave the store without paying for them. He was intercepted, arrested and charged with grand larceny. The value of the wallets stolen and recovered came to $1,487.
RadiobledOn the late afternoon of July 26, a 33-year-old man bought two tickets to the Radiohead concert at Madison Square Garden. The transaction took place at East 80th Street and Third Avenue. When the buyer got to the concert, he discovered that the tickets were counterfeit, and he was out $400.
