Man stabbed near Columbus CircleAuthorities say a man has been stabbed and seriously wounded near Columbus Circle Sunday afternoon.

Police said the 23-year-old victim was stabbed in the torso about 1:30 p.m. near Central Park’s southwest corner.

Witnesses told news outlets the attacker came up to the victim from behind and stabbed him. Witness Ahmed Gag told the Daily News the stabbing seemed to happen “without any reason.”

Firefighters say the victim was taken to a hospital in serious condition.

The assailant fled. Police are looking for him.

Driver tries to flee, drags officerThe long arm of the law almost lost a foot making a recent arrest. At 10:40 a.m. on Friday, August 25, an officer from the 24th Precinct stopped a car outside 330 West 95th St. to issue a summons to a 48-year-old woman. As the officer walked up to her car, the woman drove over his foot and pulled the officer several feet by his arm, forcing him to run alongside the car, police said. The officer prevailed, however, and arrested Sandra Cruz, a resident of the 50th Precinct, on charges of robbery, felony assault, criminal trespass, dangerous weapons, petit larceny, possession of stolen property, sex crimes and other counts.

CountermeasuresA man tried unsuccessfully to escape a gang assault. At 1:55 a.m. on Saturday, August 26, a man entered the West Park Deli at 19 West 103rd St. and hid behind the counter. Six perpetrators then entered the store and began throwing items at the man. One of the men threw a garbage can, cutting the victim on the head. The victim proved uncooperative with police and refused medical attention at the scene.

Mugging on Central Park WestThe nighttime was the wrong time for a mugging victim. At 2 a.m. on Wednesday, August 23, a 37-year-old man was walking on Central Park West between W. 88th and 89th Streets to get to a train station when several men assaulted him and took his property before fleeing northbound on foot, police said. The victim was later checked at Lenox Hill Hospital for injuries. The items stolen included a Hermès Birkin bag, a wallet, an iPhone 6, a weekly unlimited MetroCard, and a New York State ID, making a total stolen of $2,530.

Man slashedAt 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 23, a 23-year-old man was walking to his girlfriend’s home when he was approached outside 865 Amsterdam Ave. by an unidentified man who asked him for money. When the 23-year-old refused, the other man slashed him in the face with a cutting instrument. The victim took a cab to St. Luke’s hospital for treatment but was later uncooperative with police and refused to give a description of his assailant.

Man sought following assault A married couple’s argument turned to violence. At 10:45 p.m. on Wednesday, August 23, a 38-year-old woman and her husband were arguing about infidelity in their residence at 875 Columbus Ave. The husband then wrestled away his wife’s keys, wallet and phone from her and then slammed her head into the floor, according a police account. He then fled the scene, and police were unable to find him in the building or the surrounding area. The husband, Damien Murrey, is wanted by police for questioning.
