driver mugged on riversideAt 1:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 20, a 43-year-old motorist was waved down and stopped by a person who approached his side window at Riverside Drive and West 100th Street asking him for money, police said. The driver reached into his glove box, but when he turned back he saw the pedestrian had lifted his shirt to reveal a black firearm in his waistband and was demanding the driver’s wallet. The driver handed over his wallet, which contained $600 cash and two debit cards. The man next told the driver to exit the vehicle, whereupon he handcuffed the unfortunate motorist and walked him over to the sidewalk. An accomplice then went into the driver’s vehicle, but the driver told police he didn’t know if anything had been removed from his car. Both suspects finally ran westbound toward the lower level of Riverside Drive.

The same officer suffered a cut on his right hand while subduing the suspect, who was found to be holding three bags of marijuana. The suspect, who was not named, was taken to St. Luke’s Hospital for treatment and the officer was treated at Lenox Hill Hospital.
