Teen robbed by Craigslist scammersA 17-year-old reported that he was robbed inside a Chase Bank at 471 West 42nd St. at 7 p.m. April 29. The victim told police that he was selling two MCM Stark studded backpacks worth $600 to two people that he didn’t know. He said that he met up with them in the Chase Bank and two men gave him $1,000 in forged bills before taking the bags and fleeing north on 10th Avenue. The victim told police that they left in a car and were wearing all black. He said that he made the arrangement with the two men through Craigslist.
Multiple bikes stolen from Pier Two men and a woman reported that their bikes were stolen from spots at the Marina Pier at Pier 66A between West 24th and 26th Street on the afternoon of April 30. They told police that they locked the bikes to a bike rack in front of the pier and when they returned from the Frying Pan an hour later, they saw that their bikes and the locks were gone. One of the men told police that his bike was valued at $1,500 and the other man said his bicycle was valued at $4,000. The woman told police that her bike was valued at $3,000.
Burglary in 10th Avenue apartmentA 10th Avenue resident’s apartment was burglarized overnight Sunday between 12:30 a.m. and 10 a.m. The resident, who lives between West 41st and 42nd Street, told police that she woke up and found that her laptop and wallet were gone. She said that she had left both items on her kitchen counter, and her apartment door was closed but it unlocked. There was no sign of forced entry. Bag stolen from Highline BallroomA 21-year-old woman reported that her bag stolen from the Highline Ballroom on West 16th Street in the early hours of April 30. She told police that she put her purse under several coats. It was missing when she returned. She said that her cell phone was in her bag and the iPhone was off and unable to be tracked.
Man arrested for drunk drivingPolice arrested a 39-year-old man for intoxicated driving at the southeast corner of West 34th Street and Dyer Avenue April 30 at 10:40 p.m. Police said that the suspect was involved in a motor vehicle accident and upon investigation, police found that he had bloodshot eyes, slurred speech and an unsteady gait. He reportedly blew a .172 on a Breathalyzer, more than twice the legal limit of .08. Police said that there was substantial damage to the front end of the suspect’s car. No injuries were reported.
Man wanted for fake checksAn employee at Capital One’s Eighth Avenue location reported that a man tried to cash two forged checks at the bank branch last week. The employee told police that the man went into the location on the afternoon of April 29 and tried to cash a forged check for $1,020. She said that he also tried to cash a fake check for $2,235 two days before that. No arrests have been made.
dry cleaner harasseD over lost coatAn employee at the Eco Laundry Company on West 18th Street reported that a customer made threatening phone calls to him and his employees on April 25. He told police that the customer made multiple calls to the business and made threats at him and his employees over a lost coat.
Man arrested for knife on West 25thPolice arrested a 21-year-old man for criminal possession of a weapon last Friday at 6:20 p.m. in front of 264 West 25th St. Police said that the man was observed in possession of a gravity knife while on a public street.
