Chelsea resident scammed by fake IRS repA 39-year-old woman who lives at the Jeanne d’Arc Residence for Women on West 24th Street reported that she was scammed out of $7,000 by someone identifying himself as an IRS representative. She told police that a man called her on the afternoon of June 2 and told her she had outstanding debt she needed to pay. He reportedly told her that she could pay for it by purchasing an iTunes gift card and giving him the redemption numbers.
Men wanted for iPhone theftsPolice are looking for three men conducting schemes to steal iPhones from multiple Apple store locations. Police said that the three men entered the location at 401 West 14th St. on June 1, with two of the men distracting cashiers while the third reached behind the counter and took the phones. Police said that the same three men went into the SoHo location later the same day and conducted a similar ploy there.
Assault at Gilded LilyPolice arrested a 28-year-old man for assault at the Gilded Lily inside on West 15th Street on June 4 at 3:20 a.m. The 36-year-old victim told police that he was inside the club when the suspect punched him in the face, causing swelling and a cut to his left eye.
Bouncer assaulted at Marquee New YorkA 22-year-old woman was arrested for assaulting a bouncer in front of the Marquee New York nightclub at on 10th Avenue on Sunday at 12:50 a.m. The bouncer, a 35-year-old man, told police that he was providing security at the establishment when the suspect punched him multiple times in the face, causing substantial pain, bruising and swelling. No further information was available about what may have caused the dispute.
Phone stolen on West 15thA 32-year-old woman reported that her phone was stolen while she was outside her West 15th Street apartment building Sunday at 4:40 a.m. She told police that a man engaged her in conversation while she was sitting outside her building. She said that during the conversation, the suspect called her a racist and that when she wasn’t paying attention, he removed her cell phone, which was in her purse on the steps near her. She said that she attempted to locate the device using the Find My iPhone app but the phone was offline.
Man arrested for mischief in West 15th St. buildingPolice arrested a 25-year-old man for criminal mischief in front of 254 West 18th St. on June 4 at 1:58 a.m. A witness told police that the suspect ran to the door of the location and began kicking it and breaking it. Police said that the suspect doesn’t live in the building but he reportedly entered the premises and started banging on an apartment door. The resident of the apartment said that the suspect repeatedly rang his doorbell as well.
Man assaulted ON 8TH aVE.A 21-year-old man reported that he was assaulted at the northwest corner of West 23rd Street and Eighth Avenue early on the morning of June 3. He told police that he was standing at the corner shortly after 1 a.m. when a person he didn’t know shoved him to the ground, causing an injury to his left elbow. The suspect fled north on Eighth Avenue and no arrests have been made.
