Man walking dog has phone stolenPolice remind cellphone users to remain aware of others in their vicinity. At 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 12, a 45-year-old man was walking near the intersection of West 79th Street and Riverside Drive when a man on a bicycle swooped by and snatched his cellphone from his hand. The stolen cell was an LG 3 valued at $600.
LoweslifeHomes aren’t the only thing Lowe’s may need to improve. Security video in the location at 2008 Broadway revealed a 35-year-old male employee stealing money from the store at 6 a.m. on Sunday, July 16. The total stolen came to $1,300. Police said there has been no arrest in the case to date.
Bag taken at StarbucksLeave a bag on a chair, and it could vanish into thin air. At 10 a.m. on Monday, August 14, a 30-year-old woman laid her bag on a chair in the Starbucks store at 1889 Broadway. When she next looked for her bag, it was gone, along with its contents including a wallet, credit cards, and cash. In all, she lost $682.
Out of SteamerArea residents would do well not to leave expensive appliances unattended in the halls of their buildings! At 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 16, a 34-year-old woman left a clothes steamer outside in the hall beside the door of her apartment at 31 West 70th Street. When she went to retrieve the device the next morning, it was nowhere to be found. The steamer was valued at $1,400.
Cam ScamNo sooner does a new form of payment appear than bad guys use it to victimize others. At 1 p.m. on Thursday, August 17, a 33-year-old man met another individual at the corner of West 73rd Street and Broadway to sell a camera for $1,900 using a payment app called Venmo. The two concluded the sale, and later the seller found that the buyer had ripped him off with a fraudulent payment.
