Man found sleeping in stranger’s bed, arrestedA 23-year-old man was arrested for petit larceny inside an apartment at the corner of West 43rd Street and 11th Avenue Nov. 12 in the early morning after a building resident reported that a man had broken into her apartment. The victim told police that when she returned home, she found the suspect on her bed and after she went to get a doorman from the building and returned to her bedroom, the man was still sleeping. She said that both she and the doorman tried to wake him up and she noticed that $300 in cash was missing. The victim and the doorman searched the suspect’s pants pockets and recovered the money.
Man wanted for stealing hair curlersAn employee of the Ricky’s at 267 West 23rd St. reported that a man shoplifted at the store Nov. 10 around 10:30 a.m. She told police that the suspect, a bald man in his 40s, stole two hair curlers from the store, concealing them in his coat and leaving without paying. The employee said that the hair curlers were worth $200 each. No arrests have been made. Woman skips out on $80 cab fareA cab driver reported that a passenger had skipped out on a fare on West 27th St. Nov. 11 at 8:30 p.m. He told police that the passenger fled into the building on West 27th without paying the $82.50 fare, which resulted when the suspect asked the driver to take her from West 91st Street and Amsterdam Avenue to Giles Avenue in the Bronx before taking her to the West 27th Street address.
Phone stolen from cafeA coffeehouse patron reported that her phone was stolen after she left it at Grumpy’s Coffee Shop at 224 West 20th St. Nat 1 p.m. She told police that she was using her phone in the cafe and then left to walk to a movie premier at the SVA Theater on West 23rd Street. She said that when she got to the theater, she noticed that she didn’t have her phone and realized that she had left it at the coffee shop. When she returned there to find it, the phone was missing.
Phone theft at Chelsea art galleryA West 23rd Street gallery employee reported that his phone was stolen Nov. 10 while he worked. He told police that he left this phone in the basement storage room of Jim Kempner Fine Art to charge while he took a piece of artwork upstairs for display. When he returned to the basement about 15 minutes later, his phone was missing. He said that he looked at surveillance video and there was only one other person in the store at the time but the person wasn’t known to him. No arrests have been made.
