Boyfriend arrested for assaultA 27-year-old woman returned to her apartment at 60 West 104th St. at 5 p.m. on Friday, July 21, and found her 29-year-old boyfriend there. They began arguing after she asked him to leave. He then began biting her on her arms before choking her, leaving marks on her arms, she told police. The woman broke free and fled the apartment, later refusing medical attention at the scene. Wayne Gillin was arrested August 2 and charged with assault, criminal mischief and trespass, drug and other counts.
Assault charges for pepper sprayA man was picked up for assault for pepper spraying a customer with whom he had a disagreement that escalated, police said. At 1 p.m. on Thursday, July 27, a woman and a 35-year-old man got into a verbal dispute inside the Gourmet Deli Grocery at 892 Amsterdam Ave. when the man pepper sprayed the woman in her face. Ibrahim Arabyat was arrested that afternoon and charged with assault. The woman was taken to St. Luke’s Hospital for treatment.
Man fights with police, arrestedPolice officers responded to a radio report of a domestic dispute at 1 West 100th St. on the afternoon of Friday, July 28, were confronted by a 44-year-old man who assumed a fighting stance, punched one officer and breaking his nose, police said. Javier Tifuno was arrested July 28 and charged with attempted murder and manslaughter, criminal trespass, dangerous drugs and weapons counts, offenses against public administration and other counts.
Bodega bust-ups Bodegas lately seem to have become the new Wild West saloons in terms of dustups. At 3:28 a.m. on Sunday, July 30, a 22-year-old male employee got into a verbal dispute with a customer in a bodega at 700 Amsterdam Ave. The man asked the customer to leave and threatened to call police, at which the customer began throwing items and knocking down shelves. The employee suffered an injury to his thumb when a shelf fell. The victim suffered only a minor injury and refused medical attention.
At 7:36 p.m. on the same day, another man got into a verbal dispute with the 53-year-old manager of a bodega at 980 Columbus Ave., which resulted in the manager’s striking the man with a broomstick. The man was transported to St. Luke’s Hospital for treatment, and Anwar Alokam was arrested and charged with assault.
