Law GnawAt 10:10 p.m. on July 4, opposite 10 South Street, a 30-year-old woman bit a police officer on his left arm, bruising the officer. Christianna Sigliano was arrested July 4 and charged with assault on a peace officer. The officer taken to New York Downtown Hospital for treatment. The police report didn’t explain what might have occasioned the dental assault.
No LycaAt 5:30 a.m. on July 8, a 27-year-old Queens man on the northbound 1 train at the South Ferry station was approached by two men who demanded his belongings. He refused, and one of the pair punched him in the head, while the second one took his wallet and cell phone from his pocket. The train pulled into the Rector Street station, and the two fled to parts unknown. A search of the area failed to turn up the muggers. The items stolen included a Lycamobile Android prepaid phone valued at $400, $20 in cash, a brown leather wallet priced at $20, a MetroCard, a New York State ID and a debit card.
Gnarly and SnarlyAt 12:24 p.m. on July 4, a man carrying a skateboard walked into the Duane Reade store at 200 Water Street, knocking items of merchandise to the ground and yelling at people in the store. A police officer confronted the young man who then ran out before turning to the cop and cursing him. He then threw his skateboard, hitting the officer and threw up his fists. Charlzid Caulker, 19, was eventually subdued and arrested on an assault charge.
Horrors of ChambersAt 10:30 p.m. on July 4, a 54-year-old Staten Island man got off the southbound 1 train at Chambers Street. As he was leaving the station, two men in their mid-20s followed him towards the exit. When the man reached the staircase leading to the street, one of the two youths hit him on the back of his head, and the other stomped on his feet. One of the pair then took the older man’s wallet and cellphone, while the other removed a gold ring from his finger. After the assault the victim was taken to New York Downtown Hospital. The items stolen included a gold ring with seven diamonds valued at $800, an Android Metro PCS phone priced at $400, $270 in cash, a black leather wallet worth $55, and a debit card.
Later, GatorA Lacoste store employee paid a cost for trying to stop some shoplifters. At 2:35 p.m. on July 3, six men entered the Lacoste location at 541 Broadway and took clothing from a shelf and display rack. They left the store without paying, fleeing southbound on Broadway on foot. A female store employee told police that one of the perpetrators had pushed her to the ground as she tried to stop him, cutting her. Police managed to arrest one of the thieves, Harry M Ronald, 17, and charged him with robbery. The items stolen were seven polo shirts with a total value of $300.
