Warehouse LouseDuring the period between midnight on Oct. 17 and Nov. 16, a number of boxes containing cell phones and other electronics valued at nearly $11,000 went missing at the West Houston Street UPS warehouse. The missing packages had been accounted for when they arrived at the facility, but then went missing. The items included eleven Apple iPhone 7 and 7 Plus phones, two iPhone SE phones, two Apple TV set top boxes, and two Samsung Galaxy phones.
Hot SaksPolice arrested a con artist who tried to rip off Saks Fifth Avenue. On Thursday, November 17, between the hours of 3 p.m. and 5:19 p.m., a 37-year-old woman attempted to convert nearly $10,000 of returned merchandise into store credit and gift cards at the Saks Fifth Avenue store at 225 Liberty St. She then attempted to use the gift cards to purchase items from the store. Kirenia Resnick was arrested the same day and charged with grand larceny. The recovered items included Manolo Blahnik, Jimmy Choo and Alexandra McQueen shoes, a coat, a gift card.
Helping HimshelfVideo surveillance revealed that man entered the Duane Reade store at 250 Broadway on three separate occasions from Nov. 12 to Nov. 14 and taking various beauty and personal care products before stepping out the store door, apparently undetected. The thefts were noticed by an assistant store manager who noticed missing items from the shelves. He checked the inventory and then video surveillance, which showed the man taking items from a store shelf and putting them into bags and inside his shirt. The missing items are valued at $3,482.
Barred CardA man was charged for trying illegally to avoid hotel charges. At 12:15 a.m. on Nov. 19, a 21-year-old man attempted to use a forged Capital One credit card to purchase alcoholic beverages and additional room service at the Roxy Hotel at 2 Sixth Ave. The hotel called Capital One and was told that the numbers on the man’s credit card had not been issued by the bank. Further examination of the card revealed that the account numbers embossed on the front and coded in the magnetic strip on the back did not match. Clase I. Santiago from Queens was arrested that morning and charged with grand larceny. The consumables stolen amounted to $1,580.
