Saks AttackA man was arrested after a shoplifting incident turned violent. At 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 25, two men entered the Saks Fifth Avenue store on Liberty Street. One of the pair, a 24-year-old, took 10 Balenciaga handbags while his accomplice distracted store personnel. At some point a male security officer confronted the 24-year-old, inciting a struggle that resulted in a slight hand injury to the Saks employee. The shoplifter, Maurice Mills, was subsequently arrested and charged with robbery. His accomplice managed to flee the scene in a silver vehicle. The handbags were given a value of $10,105.

Cyrk MurkPolice remind bar patrons not to leave your belongings unattended when you visit the restroom. At 8:45 p.m. on Jan. 28, a patron of Bar Cyrk on Thomas Street put her Chanel bag on the back of her chair, went to the ladies room, and found her purse missing when she returned. Surveillance footage showed someone taking the purse and concealing it under a white jacket. The navy blue bag was valued at $4,500. Inside the purse was a checkbook, credit and debit cards, and a blue Prada wallet priced at $300.

Loose CanonSomeone picked up a ballplayer’s stuff while he was playing a pick-up game. At 2 p.m. on Jan. 28, a 44-year-old man arrived at the ballpark at the northwest corner of West and Murray Streets and laid his Everlane backpack, containing pricey photographic equipment, on the ground, leaving it unattended while he played ball. The bag was gone when he went to retrieve it. The backpack is valued at $100, but a Canon SD camera and Canon lens are together valued at nearly $2,000.

Station SituationAt 1 a.m. on Jan. 27, a woman left her MacBook Pro laptop on the southbound platform of the Canal Street station at Sixth Avenue and West Broadway when got on a southbound A train. She got off at Chambers Street, returned to the Canal Street stop at about 1:30 a.m. but could not locate her $1,500 Mac. She tried the Where’s My iPhone app, but the laptop was offline. A search of the station turned up nothing.

Retro PocketRemember: the only thing of value you should bring to a gym is your state of health. At 12:30 p.m. on Jan. 20, a man left his belongings, including a $900 Wittnauer watch, inside a gym locker in the Retro Fitness facility at One New York Plaza and went work out. When he returned he discovered that someone had gotten into his locker and taken his stuff. Besides the watch, the man’s Discover card, on which unauthorized charges of $247 turned up later, was also taken.
