Diaper thief arrested Police arrested a 50-year-old man for stealing diapers from a Rite Aid at 282 Eighth Ave. Friday, April 28, at 11:55 a.m. Police said that the suspect took three cases of Pampers diapers, valued at $261, and put them into a black garbage bag before leaving the store without paying. An employee at the store followed the suspect down West 24th Street going east and flagged down an officer, telling police that the man had taken the items from the store without paying. L train taggedPolice said that an L train was vandalized while it was laid up on the spur track at the 14th Street/Eighth Avenue station Thursday, April 27, between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. Police said that prior to rush hour, one of the cars was vandalized with the tag “Metr” measuring about 25 feet by 4 feet in black, white, pink, purple, blue, green and orange spray paints. Another car of the same train was tagged with “Ease,” which appeared on the car twice and was 15 feet by 4 feet. New York City Transit said that it would cost about $2,200 to clean the train.
taxi accident injures woman A woman was injured in a collision between two taxis at the southeast corner of West 42nd Street and 10th Avenue Thursday, April 27, at 7 p.m. A cab driver told police that he was near the intersection with a passenger when another cab rear-ended his car and left the scene. The passenger was taken to the NYU Langone Medical Center for treatment of a head injury. There was no word on her condition.
Electronics stolen A 29-year-old man reported that two of his laptops and his cellphone were stolen when he left them with a Citi Bike in front of the Rite Aid at 195 Eighth Avenue Thursday, April 27, at 4:20 p.m. He told police that he left the bike unattended with the electronics in the basket for about three minutes while he ran into the Rite Aid nearby. The bag containing his computers and cellphone was gone when he returned.
Cyclist injured in hit-and-run A 53-year-old bicyclist told police that he was riding north on Eighth Avenue in the bike lane on the west side of the street and approaching West 15th Street when a black car hit him, causing an injury to the back of his head Friday, April 28, at 11 p.m. The driver did not stop, heading west on West 15th Street, he told police.
Luggage stolen on West 23rdA 62-year-old woman reported that her luggage was stolen while she was getting a bus ticket on West 23rd Street between 10th and 11th Avenues Thursday, April 27, at 12:45 p.m. She told police that she left her bag unattended while she went to the ticket kiosk and when she returned, her bag containing her iPad had been stolen.
