DeliveranceAn abusive young man was arrested after delivering threats and violence to his girlfriend. At 1 p.m. on Friday, April 21, a 23-year-old man, later identified as Nikko Mickens, knocked on the door of his 22-year-old girlfriend at her 101 West 109th St. residence and claimed to be a UPS delivery man. When she opened the door, he rushed into her apartment, pulled a kitchen knife from his pocket, and held it to her throat. “You will not be with any other men,” he told her. He then punched her, bruising her left thigh. When she tried to call police he smashed her phone. Mickens was arrested Tuesday, April 25, and charged with robbery, felony assault, criminal mischief and trespass, dangerous drugs and weapons, forcible touching, harassment, and additional counts. Police said Mickens was already on parole.
Barbershop assaultPerhaps a customer didn’t like his haircut? At 4:05 p.m. on Monday, April 17, a 48-year-old man was struck with a bat multiple times by another individual in the Vinmel & José barber shop at 998 Amsterdam Ave. The victim was struck in the back of the head and lower back, sustaining bruises. He was taken to St. Luke’s Hospital, while the assailant fled on foot.
Daughter arrestedAt 9:59 a.m. on Wednesday, April 19, a 33-year-old woman hit her mother, a woman in her 60s living at 10 West 107th St., multiple times with a belt, causing welts, redness and swelling to her right arm and left leg, according to a report made to police. The daughter, Teresita Taylor, was arrested the same day and charged with felony assault, criminal trespass, dangerous weapons, disorderly conduct, among other charges.
Husband arrested for strangulationAt 8:45 p.m. on Wednesday, April 19, a 54-year-old husband strangled his 51-year-old wife’s in their apartment 784 Amsterdam Ave. He later admitted to police he had put his hands around her neck during another verbal dispute. The victim refused medical attention, but her husband, Jean Kieffer, was arrested the same day and charged with strangulation.
Attempted shopliftA brave store employee was injured struggling with a shoplifter. At 12:25 p.m. on Wednesday, April 19, a 41-year-old man entered the Cohen’s Fashion Optical store at 2565 Broadway and attempted to shoplift several pairs of sunglasses, whose value was put at $1,695. A 34-year-old female employee tried to stop the thief, who pushed her to the floor, injuring to her right hand. She refused medical attention at the scene, and Christian Nunex was arrested the same day and charged with robbery, grand larceny, criminal trespass among other charges.
