Down Under on the Upper West Side
Earlier today, an odd package arrived at our offices. Inside was a plush orange spray-painted cow named Bruce, who brought news of a new Upper West Side eatery: the Sunburnt Calf, at 226 W. 79th St. (former home to Indian restaurant Bagicha). Bruce thrashes about and plays music when a button on his hoof is pressed, but more importantly, he let us know that the Sunburnt Calf is opening April 1, with free eats and drinks from 4 to 10 p.m., according to the Calf?s website. A very generous offer from the folks who brought us Aussie eateries the Sunburnt Cow on Avenue C and Bondi Road on Rivington Street. The original Cow, according to Menu Pages, can host some pretty raucous all-you-can-drink brunches. Will the Calf become the new Sunday morning watering hole where local frat boys nurse their hangovers? Only time will tell.
