Five Friends Take on New Yorkers and Their Love of Pizza

by Adel Manoukian This isn't a "Five Guys Burger and Fries" fast food type of idea. This is more of a "five guys and a slice" concept. The New York Pizza Project, which can also be found as a blog at [nypizzaproject.com](http://nypizzaproject.com), was created by five friends with day jobs who propelled their love for New York City-style pizza by visiting different pizzerias around the five boroughs and documenting their experience through their blog. These guys don't go to fancy Italian restaurants or chains either, but aspire to visit most of the mom-and-pop pizza joints around the area. They note their experience through other customers, some who are regulars and the owners. They also post photos and map out their location on their blog. The men started their pizza blogging experience a year ago, when they organized an event called Slice Out Hunger. They got the city's most famous pizzeria's such as Lombardi's and Grimaldi's, to donate slices and then they sold them for a dollar. The proceeds went to CityHarvest, an organization that fights to end hunger in New York City. The group has already visited about 42 pizza places, the most being in Manhattan. Once they reach a hundred, the boys plan to publish a book about what they believe is New York's "quintessential food."
