Fleet Week, Tighty Whities Let Loose
Its Fleet Week in NYC, which means all of us jaded land lubbers will have our annual chance to scope out naval parades, a harbor full of warships andmuch more importantlyboatloads of patriotic navy boys roaming the city in perfectly pressed sailor suits and white caps.
Fleet week, this year celebrating its 20th anniversary, brings [3,000 sailors, Marines and Coast Guard] members to the city to relax, meet local residents and show off the latest and greatest in big guns and super-sized toy boats.
The festivities [began yesterday with a parade] of lumbering US Navy and US Coast Guard ships down the Hudson River, led by the USS Wasp, an amphibious, helicopter-toting assault ship, and joined by a team of F-18s flying overhead. This morning, hundreds of city firefighters joined Marines for an [annual World Trade Center memorial run](http://www.ny1.com/ny1/content/index.jsp?stid=1&aid=70043) that ended with a wreath-laying ceremony at ground zero. Click [here](http://www.fleetweek.navy.mil/) for a schedule of the weeks events, which includes free public ship tours, navy challenge displays, and helicopter raid demonstrations.
