Giuliani, Race & 2008
A longtime narrative of Rudy Giuliani's political life has been his poor record on matters of race, particularly with African-Americans. Yesterday the New York Times [reworked much of Giuliani's history on race], outlining the number of reasons he will have a hard time bringing African-American voters into his domain.
Polls continually show Giuliani picking up next to zero support among the nation's Black community, though some feel that he does get a bad rap when it comes to race relations (Greg Pollowitz of the National Review heavily critiques the piece [here]). None of this is real news to New Yorkers, but the former mayor has a contentious relationship with African-Americans at best, and it could be a real issue in a general election campaign.
Aside from that, the piece does mention the 1993 police demonstration which saw a fired up Giuliani shout "bullshit" twice to protesting cops in reference to David Dinkins. Here, via Rafael Martinez Alequin, is the video of that incident.
