ISRAELI ARTIST TO DISCUSS NEW WORK
By [Allen Houston] Renowned Israeli artist Avner Moriah, will be at The Society for the Advancement of Judaism, 15 W. 86th St., from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Dec 4, showing his latest project, The Illumination of the Five Books of Moses. The artist's beautiful calligraphy and colorful artwork create a unique interpretation of the Torah. During the Torah reading (Mikeitz-Genesis 41:1-44:17, the story of Joseph), Moriah will show slides of the corresponding artwork. He will then present and discuss his work on the book of Genesis. After he shows his art, congregants and guests will have an opportunity to ask questions of the artist. Moriah's works have been acquired by the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Israel Museum and the Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C., among others. He is renowned for his Jerusalem landscape pictures, Jerusalem Wailing Wall pictures and interpreting the Israeli landscape in oil painting. He is also known for the creation of visual chronicles of the saga of the Jewish people and public works for synagogues, educational institutions and national memorials and monuments.
