JEWISH MUSEUM CELEBRATES HANUKKAH
Byˆ [Sharon Elizabeth Samuel] The Jewish Museum will host a number of exhibitions in celebration of Hanukkah, including Hanukkah-related artworks, eclectic music, family-friendly activities, guided discussions and more. Dec. 1-9, the museum will offer a special admission price of $8, in honor of the holiday. Highlights of the shows will include: Daniel Libeskind"s Line of Fire, featuring an installation of 40 Hanukkah lamps from the Museum"s collection. The brilliant colors and irregular shapes of Daniel Libeskind"s selections are intended to represent the endurance of Jewish culture through tumultuous historical circumstances. Several sculptural installations will be on view, including Alice Aycock"s â??Greased Lightning, a motorized structure featuring an oversized dreidel; Lyn Godley"s â??Miracle, a massive lighted Hanukkah lamp designed to show the cumulative effect of eight days of candlelight; and Matthew McCaslin"s â??Bring the Light, a contemporary twist on the traditional Hanukkah lamp. The exhibitions will continue through the end of January. There will be a special Hanukkah Family Day celebration Dec. 5, with craft making, a puppet show and holiday music. On Dec. 7, the museum will host a concert featuring Grammy award-winning klezmer band, The Klezmatics.
