Joel Rivera, Marathon Man

Over at City Hall News I have an online exclusive piece about the 2009 race for Bronx borough president, which is shaping up to be a face-off between City Council Majority Leader Joel Rivera and Assemblyman Ruben Diaz Jr., with State Senator Jose Marcos Serrano possibly thrown into the mix.

The piece is [here]. Though it didn't make the piece Rivera noted during our interview that he is currently in training to run a marathon, something he decided to take up after working during the past year on health and obesity issues in the City Council.

Right now, Rivera is running between 30 and 40 miles a week, and is planning to run his first long road run of 18 miles this weekend.

"I'm pretty active," said Rivera, "but I want to challenge myself."
