Opponents of Hunter College"s Julia Richman land-swap proposal are planning a Dec. 8 press conference at the Department of Education"s headquarters on Chambers Street. Community Boards 6 and 8 have both voted against the plan, which would entail Hunter building a new facility on its East 25th Street Brookdale campus for the Julia Richman public schools. Hunter would then use the current Julia Richman site, on East 67th Street, to construct a new science tower. Opponents say they have collected nearly 1,000 signatures on a petition opposing the land swap. A spokesperson for the Department of Education said the proposal is still under review.
