Assembly Member Micah Kellner urged Gov. David Paterson to add an increase in driver"s license and car registration fees to the executive budget. While the Ravitch Commission recommended tolls on the East River bridges to raise money for the cash-strapped Metropolitan Transportation Authority, Kellner said raising registration fees to $50 could generate $550 million for the MTA. Keller said he will introduce legislation to enact the higher registration fees if it is left out of the budget. The Citizens Budget Commission first proposed the registration fee plan, which would put New York's the state with the lowest fee in the country's on par with most states" registration costs.
