Woman killed in UES hit-and-run

A woman was hit and killed on Lexington Avenue near 68th Street by a yellow cab whose driver fled the scene this morning, police said, in the second fatality involving a taxi in the neighborhood in just a few weeks.

The woman was attempting to cross the avenue shortly after 5 a.m., police said. The woman, who was not publicly identified, was taken to New York Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Police are continuing their investigation.

On July 28, an Upper East Side resident, Barbara Horn, 80, was crossing Third Avenue from west to east when was struck by a cab that had turned on Third from 70th Street. The taxi driver, Syed Ullah, stayed at the scene and was later arrested on charges of failure to yield to a pedestrian.

Also this morning, police responded to a 911 call shortly after 6:30 found an overturned vehicle on Madison Avenue between East 75th Street and East 76th Street. FDNY officials said

two of the SUV’s three occupants were taken New-York Presbyterian Weill Cornell Medical Center where one refused attention. The condition of the other occupant was not released. No other vehicles were involved in that incident.
