MARKING MLK DAY

on martin luther king day, families, singles and couples young and old can volunteer together at the manhattan jcc, 334 amsterdam ave. activities include project sunshine, where participants make welcome kits with cards, journals, markers and pencils for children checking in to hospitals, and "dear mr. president," where participants write letters to president-elect barack obama on the eve of his inauguration. there will also be an adults-only participation with the anti-genocide hotline (1-800-genocide). free bagels, coffee and hot chocolate will be served during the events, which take place on monday, jan. 19 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. for more information, call 646-505-4444.
