Move the U.N. to Governors Island

To the Editor: You might be interested to know that I proposed this very thing in the spring of 2006 to various government offices and officials in the Mayor?s office (?Governors Island: A Different Idea,? open forum, April 29). My own selfish reason was because, at that time, the U.N. was standing in the way of completing the greenway due to security concerns. The interesting thing is that I was told the city had actually considered it and proposed it to the U.N., but the U.N. didn?t want to move due to accessibility concerns. As you know, it is international soil, so the city cannot force them out. My contact info may be a little stale, but here it is: Dear Mr. Baker, Thank you for your correspondence and suggestions regarding both Governors Island and the United Nations. I will forward your message to the proper agencies with jurisdiction regarding the development of the island. In the meantime, below you will find a link for the Governors Island website which has information you may find useful: www.govisland.com. Regards, Mary Sue Daniels Office of the Mayor
