New York Fringe Festival: 52 Man Pickup

| 11 Nov 2014 | 02:05

Dirty mouthed, sexy, slutty, and seductive comedy is what makes 52 Man Pickup one of the best shows at the NYC Fringe Festival this year.  Not only does creator Desiree Burch hook you in with her sultry tales of lovers, both good and bad, but also she engages the audience in multiple card games like Mexican Sweat, UNO and Go Fish.  This involvement gives the crowd the feeling that they have become part of the show, rather then just watching Burch pour her heart out over romance lost and mistakes she would have liked to forget about.  She even asks for personal stories in the audience, but unlike her, most of the people were to shy to reveal their dirt.  52 Man Pickup originated at the SMUT reading series at the former Galapagos space in Williamsburg, and her festival performances are accompanied by her “Gay on Piano,” Daniel Ajl Kitrosser.  The way Burch played with the crowd and hypnotic jiggle of her corseted breast made it easy to see how she carried her stories this far.

Additional show times are Aug. 18 at 9:15, Aug. 20 at 5:30, Aug. 21 at 10 pm, and Aug. 23 at 3.  The Jazz Gallery, 290 Hudson (btwn. Spring and Dominick Streets). $15.
