As the Summer release date for Michael Bay’s Transformers movie draws nearer, the rollout of the new merch is doing its best to widen the generation gap. Back in the day, Transformers were simply toy cars that turned into toy robots, but now you can get into the action with “one-pull” transforming Nerf arm blasters and an Optimus Prime voice-changing helmet. Will we see kids this summer walking around with their Optimus hands and head, talking to their parents with the voice of Peter Cullen? Hell, who are we kidding: the streets of the city will be filled with thirtysomethings acting out all their pent-up Transformer fantasies at last.
