Park Ave. Ghost
By [Dan Rivoli] The Parks Department released the rendering of Japanese artist Yoshitomo Nara"s â??White Ghost exhibition. The two sculptures will be on the Park Avenue Malls at East 67th Street and East 70th Street from Sept. 6 to Nov. 5. The 14-foot tall statues are part of a retrospective of Japanese artist Nara at the Asia Society called Nobody"s Fool. The glossy sculptures sit on rough, stone-like bases, â??referencing how artifacts and monuments from the past often appear in museums, the Parks Department said. â??Yoshitomo Nara"s grand sculptures will enliven Park Avenue and give New Yorkers and visitors a look into the window of contemporary Japanese art, said Parks Commissioner Adrian Benepe in a statement. The exhibition collects more than 100 of Nara"s work, including drawings, paintings, sculptures and other large-scale installations. It will run Sept. 9 through Jan. 2 at the Asia Society. An open studio where the public is invited to watch Nara at work will take place from Aug. 23 to 27 at the Park Avenue Armory.
