By [Reid Spagna] It may sound trashy, but â??Dumpster pools may be coming to Park Avenue this August. Three pools refashioned from old, refurbished dumpsters will be open on the east side of Park Avenue between East 40th and 41st streets from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the first three Saturdays of August, according to the [New York Times](http://www.nytimes.com/2010/07/16/nyregion/16pool.html?ref=nyregion). With an approximate area of 176 square feet and depth of 5.5 feet, the large trash receptacles will be retrofitted with filtration systems and protective liners, and filled with water. Each will have a metal deck surrounding the water, which will be topped with a rubber coating. There will be several changing rooms, portable showers and toilets near the pool. Macro-Sea, a Brooklyn-based architecture firm, came up with the idea, and will be in charge of altering the containers into fully-functional swimming pools. Fitness center Crunch will provide lifeguards to man the pools. This is part of the city"s Summer Streets programs, which provides entertainment and out-door recreational events.
