Party Primary Sniping Begins

The kumbaya, touch-feely atmosphere that typically surrounds the presidential primary process this early in the game has already been shattered.

On the Democratic side, Senator Hillary Clinton has taken umbrage with colleague Barack Obama's [statement alleging] that Clinton does not favor the phased redeployment of troops from Iraq, preferring simply to cap their number.

"Senator Obama is mistaken. Senator Clinton has long been on record in favor of a phased redeployment of our troops. In fact both she and Senator Obama voted in 2005 to begin such a withdrawal," said Clinton's spokesman Howard Wolfson in a statement, which included numerous examples pointing to Clinton's preference of phased redeployment.

On the right (and in a much more harsh fashion), Senator Sam Brownback's campaign is complaining that former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney is misleading voters by trying to clear up his own [change of heart] on abortion by comparing it to Brownback's. But unlike Romney, Brownback says he has always been pro-life, and released a whole timetable chronicling Romney's fluctuation of opinion on the issue.

"Mitt Romney’s flip-flops are enough to make John Kerry blush," Brownback for President Campaign Manager Rob Wasinger said. "It is absurd of Mitt Romney to compare himself to Senator Brownback on the right to life issue."
