Players React To Torre Situation

Over the last 24 hours, many New York Yankees have [expressed disappointment] with what appears to be the [imminent firing ](http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/playoffs2007/news/story?id=3055170)of manager Joe Torre. Of course, if they really wanted him to stay, maybe they should have grown some nuts and not played like Little Leaguers against Cleveland this past week (or for half the season, for that matter). Regardless, here’s a rundown of some of their thoughts:

Jorge Posada:  “Joe Torre is the best manager in baseball. It’s not his fault. He used the same lineup from April till now, the same guys. He doesn’t throw or hit or do anything on the field. He does everything possible to keep us positive and get us to win.”

Andy Pettite: “I hope he stays here and manages forever. No one in the locker room wants to see him go. That’s for sure…You see him in that office and you really can’t see anyone else.”

Derek Jeter: “I love Mr. T…This is by far his best year. It goes without saying that I support him.”

In other Yankee news, things are going to get worse for the Pinstripers this offseason. Stalwart closer Mariano Rivera said today that he would [enter the free-agent market] this winter. “They had the opportunities and they didn't do nothing with me,” he said. “So we'll see what happens…This is a business. Nothing against the New York Yankees.” Translation: Fuck you George Steinbrenner and Brian Cashman, thanks for not having faith in me anymore.
