Regenhard Not Running

| 11 Nov 2014 | 01:42

Before Sally Regenhard (who pens a [first-person piece] about the 9/11 memorial in this week's New York Press) became a crusader for 9/11 victim's rights following her firefighter son's death at the World Trade Center, she was a well-regarded community activist in Co-op City.

Having since moved to Woodlawn, Regenhard's name has been raised repeatedly as a potential candidate to succeed City Councilman G. Oliver Koppell when term limits force him out of office in 2009. Though the idea of holding elected office does appeal to her (she has openly mentioned an interest in a Congressional seat in the past), Regenhard said that moving to the City Council would hamper her work with the [Skyscraper Safety Campaign] and her advocacy for 9/11 victims and their families.

"My work is so important, and being an elected official would take away from that," said Regenhard. "I'm really accomplishing things, I'm speaking for the families and for the public."

She added, "I feel I can accomplish more doing what I'm doing than by running for office."
