Safe for the Taking

A commercial delivery driver had thousands of dollars stolen out of a safe kept in his truck Oct. 11. Police said the 22-year-old Queens man parked his truck on the southwest corner of Amsterdam Avenue and West 73rd Street at 8:20 p.m. He was making a delivery to a newsstand across the street. He told police he locked the safe inside the truck and closed the back door with a commercial lock. When he returned five minutes later, the lock was removed and the safe was open. The driver reported $9,714 missing.
