on the heels of his bill that mandates handgun license renewals ever five years, state sen. eric schneiderman is pushing for microstamp technology on bullets. last week, schneiderman, who chairs the codes committee, introduced a bill that requires semiautomatic pistols be manufactured or sent to state gun dealers to microstamp ammunition. microstamping marks fired bullets with a code that denotes the make, model and serial number of the gun. "law enforcement officers need as many tools as possible to solve gun crimes and to prevent the trafficking of illegal guns often used in crimes," schneiderman said in a statement. "microstamping is just such a tool." assembly member michelle schimel, a long island democrat, is carrying the bill in the lower chamber.
