Separate Doors For Rich And Poor At New Condo
The [New York Sun] has an interesting little piece about a new tower to be built above a historic Upper West Side church that would enforce a kind of modern day Gristedes versus Whole Foods segregation. Low-income residents would have to enter the building through a different door than owners of market-rate condominiums, and would not have access to the gym, playroom or media center.
Some approve of the project because it would generate enough money to cover the renovations and upkeep of West-Park Presbyterian Church, and guarantee that the affordable units remain that way over the long-term. On the one hand, you pay more, you get morewhich might explain not having access to the playroom (sure does sound fun, though). But the whole separate entrances thing? Thats just plain low.
