Outgoing President George W. Bush signed a bill that increases penalties against sex traffickers and protects victims. Rep. Carolyn Maloney, co-chair of the Human Trafficking Caucus, applauded the bipartisan legislation. Maloney was an original cosponsor of the bill that passed the House in 2007. â??The bipartisan Wilberforce Act will dramatically strengthen our efforts to fight human trafficking, giving prosecutors the tools they need to hold traffickers accountable and providing a helping hand to victims, as well, she said in a statement.
