Starving Artists
Starving Artists
Early last week, Downtown NYC, an arts coalition, released the results of a shocking new survey. Of the 175 artists they spoke with, it seems that within the past three years, just under one-half of them?one-half!?has been forced to take some sort of day job in order to make ends meet. Can you imagine how humiliating that must be for them? Having to actually "work" at a "job" like any other common pig while their Destiny awaits them, unexpressed, on a blank canvas?
The coalition blames the terrorist attacks for this, together with the fact that grant money promised in the aftermath of the attacks has not been properly distributed.
Our hearts bleed. Simply bleeeeeed.
On the bright side, the survey also reported that 13 percent of the artists surveyed are thinking about giving up the "life of the artist" entirely, because they aren't making enough money.
