STUDENTS CENSUS HELP
the city university of new york is helping out with the 2010 u.s. census count by providing training space and connecting students and staffers with census jobs. already, 10,000 new yorkers have been tested in cuny classrooms for a slew of census positions, according to the city's public college system. around 3,500 people have already been hired locally for address canvassing, the first phase of the census. students and other cuny staffers have participated in the tests in an effort to land positions that can pay up to $19 an hour and can last for several weeks. this is part of a new partnership with the u.s. census bureau and cuny. jay hershenson, cuny's vice chancellor, said the university's students and staff comprise a diverse body that can aid in counting the country's population. "the talents of this uniquely great public university should be a resource for the entire nation," hershenson said in a statement.
