The Angry Scientologist Retort

| 11 Nov 2014 | 01:30

As could be expected, Scientologists are none too happy with Mayor Mike Bloomberg and City Councilman Peter Vallone for [questioning the scientific validity] of their "sweat and vitamins" detox project for 9/11 rescue workers. And at least one California-based follower of the ways of L. Ron hubbard is speaking out, sending an open letter to a variety of elected officials, newspapers and others praising the scientific validity of the New York Rescue Workers Detox Project.

The full letter is after the jump.

    April 19, 2007

An Open Letter to NYC Mayor Bloomberg and NYC Councilman Vallone:

In today's NY Post, Mr. Mayor, you were quoted as saying "I think that reputable scientists do not think Scientology has any basis in science. ... and we should only fund those programs that reputable scientists believe will stand the light of day and the scientific method."

In yesterday's Post, Councilman Vallone, you were quoted in the NY Post as saying "It's dangerous to confer legitimacy on a cult".

These statements were in response to support for a NYC fundraiser for a "sauna detox" method developed by Scientology founder L R Hubbard, and supported by Tom Cruise.

Apparently, each of you has been given poor guidance on the Hubbard detox method, as the independent, peer-reviewed, mainstream scientific evidence supporting this method does indeed exist, and continues to gain momentum in respected scientific circles.

A sampling of independent research (not connected to Scientology or Scientologists) which references and supports the Hubbard sauna detox method includes the following:

RESEARCH PAPERS (available at the medical research PubMed.com website): Altern Ther Health Med. 2007 Mar-Apr;13(2):S154-6. Components of practical clinical detox programs--sauna as a therapeutic tool. Crinnion W. Environmental MedicineCenter of Excellence, SouthwestCollege of Naturopathic

    Medicine in Tempe, Arizona, USA.

J Altern Complement Med. 1998 Spring;4(1):77-86. Chemical sensitivity after intoxication at work with solvents: response to sauna

therapy. Krop J. St. Joseph's Health Centre, Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

    BOOKS

"Sauna Therapy" (LawrenceWilson, MD); "Detoxify or Die" (Sherry A. Rogers, MD); "Sauna Detoxification Therapy" (Marilyn G. McVicker).

Again, the above is just a sampling of books and independent, peer-reviewed and scientific papers published in respected medical journals which reference and support Hubbard's sauna detox method. These books and papers were all written by mainstream, respected, non-Scientology MDs and researchers, who have simply risen above the noise and studied this detox method on its own merits. And they are part of a growing body of mainstream researchers who are coming to support this method as first delineated by Hubbard 30+ years ago.

To repeat the unsubstantiated statement made by Scientology detractors that "there is no scientific value" to this detox method, is incorrect and irresponsible.

    Sincerely,

    Brian Wenger
