    Troy Opens May 14

It's not a very long preview, and that's probably a good thing. Because the preview made me want to see the movie.

The reason is the opening scene, which shows an entire sea filled with Homer-era ships heading to Troy. It was truly awesome. Then the preview cuts to deliciously bloody ancient battles. If you're like me, you're hoping that Troy will resemble the opening battle scene in Gladiator?an otherwise mediocre film?stretched to two hours. The fact that this movie is directed by Das Boot's Wolfgang Petersen is a good thing, as is its casting of Eric Bana, whose role in Chopper ranks as one of the great comic characters in movie history. On the other hand, there is a Brad Pitt factor.

I'm not sure what it says about me or the male demographic that this movie was made and that it successfully lulled me into wanting to drop an A-J on it. Frankly, I don't want to study that question. I just want to see the damn battles.
