Trump Soho Sues Over Sandy

The Trump Soho New York Hotel filed a lawsuit against its insurance provider and Con Edison for losses it incurred after Superstorm Sandy struck downtown, Crain's New York reports.

The luxury hotel lost power on October 29, 2012, and remained in the dark with the rest of Manhattan below 34th Street for four and a half days, due to extensive flooding. The shutdown cost the property more than $2 million in lost business and unforeseen expenses, the lawsuit alleges. Trump is seeking $2.3 million in damages, Crain's reports, alleging gross negligence on the part of Con Edison and breach of contract by its insurer Affiliated FM.

The outcome of the suit could affect many other Sandy-related suits winding through the courts, since Trump is alleging that an explosion, not flooding, caused the massive power outage after the storm, which would make Con Edison liable.
