ril 14: The man so many love to hate, yet still love, Martin Amis, reads at the 92nd St. Y (8; $16). Local boy Paul Auster also reads from his Collected Poems at The Mercantile Library of New York (6; $5, res. req.).

Sat., April 17: Siri Hustvedt, author of the much-hyped "serious" novel of last year, What I Loved, won't be joking around at the Brooklyn Public Library (2; free).

Sun., April 18: What better way to celebrate National Poetry month than by listening to Brooklyn dandy Walt Whitman's stuff at Bowne & Company Stationers at South Street Seaport (2; $5)? Later, work off that Sunday hangover with a beer at Four-Faced Liar with poets Ada Limon, Brendan Lorber and Marion Wrenn (2:30; free).

Mon., April 19: Guaranteed you won't be disappointed as old-tymers Dan Rather, Tina Brown, The New Yorker's underrated Hendrick Hertzberg and none other than Howell Raines read columns and articles written by the late, great Michael Kelly at Barnes & Noble at 82nd and Broadway (7:30; free). And is Saul Williams considered experimental anymore? Find out as he reads from his book-length poem, said the Shotgun to the Head at Borders, Columbus Circle (6:30; free).

Tues. April 20: Get political (and techno) at "MoveOn's 50 Ways to Love Your Country" with Eli Pariser and your boy Moby as they discuss the online group's book at Astor Place Barnes & Noble. And no, we don't know why Moby's gonna be there either (7:30; free). Also tonight, the woman we all feel guilty not reading, Joyce Carol Oates, reads from her book I Am No One You Know at Coliseum Books (6; free). If that doesn't do it for you, Adam Berlin reads from his second novel Belmondo Style at Borders, Columbus Circle (6:30; free).
