By [Dan Rivoli] Get out the ear plugs: starting today, construction crews will be working around the clock this week on the Second Avenue subway route. At 7 a.m., crews started work that will last 24 hours until Sept. 27 to complete necessary gas main connections on East 87th Street. That work will require East 87th Street between First and Second avenues to close down intermittently from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The block will be completely closed between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m. Monday through Wednesday. Construction crews will also work overnight shifts starting today lasting until Wednesday Sept. 24 on Second Avenue between East 82nd and East 85th streets. The overnight work will repair two sections of a brick-lined sewer main that runs down the middle of Second Avenue. There will be respite from the sewer main construction on Saturday Sept. 25 and Sunday Sept. 26.
