Yanks Stumble Against Toronto
The New York Yankees didnt have a scheduled day off yesterday, but the team certainly acted like they had one. The [Yankees fell 4-1] to the Toronto Blue Jays in their final home game of the 2007 regular season, and with just six days remaining, the Yanks [dropped two games behind](http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/standings) the Boston Red Sox in the AL East.
The Blue Jays picked up four runs off Andy Pettite in the first three innings, and the Yankees never recovered. Alex Rodriguez drove in the lone run for New Yorkhis league-leading 147th RBI of the seasonbut the Pinstripers lacked enough energy to mount a legitimate comeback. It definitely felt like a makeup game, Pettite said.
With Detroit idle, the Yankees magic number to clinch a playoff spot remained at two, although they would have liked to inch closer to the idle Red Sox in the division. New York did get a few smiles yesterday, however, because it was Rookie Hazing day, and the newcomers were forced to dress up like characters from the Wizard of Oz. Relievers Joba Chamberlain and Edwar Ramirez drew the Cowardly Lion and the Wicked Witch of the West, and starter Ian Kennedy was Dorothy. I think I got the short end, Kennedy bemoaned, as he put on his sparkly, ruby red slippers. Personally, however, I thought it was a good look for him.
